Christology – Week 3: Christ's Deity

May 18, 2025 Speaker: Lance Nelson Series: Sunday School: Doctrinal Statement Deep Dive

Topic: Christology

The Centrality of Christ’s Deity

The deity of Christ is foundational to the Christian faith. Without it, the gospel collapses. This doctrine affirms that Jesus Christ is not merely a great teacher, prophet, or moral example, but the eternal God incarnate. Denial of Christ's deity leads to a different gospel and a different Jesus

Doctrinal Statement

We believe that Jesus Christ, the second Person of the Trinity, possesses all the divine excellencies, and in these he is coequal, consubstantial, and coeternal with the Father (John 10:3014:9).

We believe that God the Father created all things through God the Son and that through him all things continue to exist and operate (John 1:3Colossians 1:15–17Hebrews 1:2).

Key Verse

  • 1 Corinthians 8:5–6  4 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth—as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”— yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist
  • Prayer: As you pray. Ask for a greater understand of Glory of Christ’s deity, leading to greater worship.
